Frequently Asked Questions
What type of audio do you transcribe?
We work with all formats of audio, both analog and digital. While digital files offer a much quicker turnaround time for us, we frequently receive analog tapes (VHS and cassette) and can transcribe from those as well. If you are unsure as to whether or not we can work with the audio source you have, contact us.
What do you transcribe?
Anything you want transcribed. We can transcribe legal documents (pleadings, deposition summaries, agreements, etc.), medical documents, entertainment, anything you may need as long as we can hear it.
Why are your prices lower than other companies?
You might be surprised to know we get asked this question quite a bit. The reason is simple: we want you to become a long-term client of ours, and we feel that charging you an arm and a leg for transcription services is not the best way to keep you as a client. We strive to give you excellent service, and our low, affordable rates are a big part of that.
Will you really match any legitimate competitor's quote?
Absolutely! If you provide us proof that one of our competitors has given you a lower quote for your project, we will match or beat their quote. The reason again is simple: we want you to become a long-term client of ours.
Why do you charge per audio minute?
Simple, to save you money. Charging you a rate per page or per work hours is not cost-effective for either you or us. We only charge you for the work we actually performed.
My project is confidential. Can you maintain the confidentiality of my project?
Absolutely. As many of our clients are in the legal industry, confidentiality is extremely important. We will sign any confidentiality agreement you deem necessary. As a matter of fact, we assume all files sent to us are sensitive in nature and consider any information therein to be confidential, whether they are or not. Furthermore all of our transcriptionists have signed confidentiality agreements with us not to divulge any information they receive from us. Bottom line? You're safe with us.
How do I receive my files when they are COMPLETED?
When you become a client of ours, we will set you up on our FTP server, where you can both upload files for us to transcribe, and we will upload the files that we have completed for you to download. If you so choose, we can email the files to you.
Do you accept materials from anywhere in the Country?
Absolutely. We have clients all over the country. If you wish to send your materials via U.S. Mail, send it directly to us at:

What do I need to submit with my files?
You have three options: (1) You may download the forms from our FORMS section and fill it out; (2) You can send us an email and let us know what you are sending and when it is due; or (3) you may call us and let us know what you are sending.
How often do you bill me?
We bill your credit card on file upon the completion of each project. If you are a new client or wish to pay via check, we require a 50% deposit upfront and 50% upon completion.
How do I set up an account with Chromolume Transcription?
Go to our Forms section above and download our Client Sign Up form. Once you have downloaded the form, fill it out completely and fax it in to us at (866) 763-6097 or scan it and send it to our billing department at billing@chromolumeinc.com.
How LARGE of a project can you handle?
As large as you've got. We have many transcribers all over the country who are just waiting to transcribe your files. So, email us or give us a call with any questions you might have regarding the size of your project.
What do you do to protect my originals?
Regardless of how your files are sent to us (whether they are digial or analog), we immediately make a digital copy of your file before we send it out to our transcribers. We would advise that you send us a copy of your original tapes to protect yourself from the chance that tapes may be damaged in shipping, etc. Having said that, rest assured that your files will be handled with the best of care so as not to damage them in any way.
IN WHAT FORMATS DO YOU DELIVER THE COMPLETED TRANSCRIPTS?
We can deliver your transcripts in either WordPerfect or Microsoft Word. As most of our clients use Microsoft Word, that is our default choice. If you wish your documents to be sent in WordPerfect, please let us know!
